Why Guesswork Doesn’t Belong in Pre-Rolls

Welcome to the Hefestus Pre-Roll Playbook — A series of articles on how to get the most out of your pre-roll manufacturing capabilities and strategies.

Experience is everything with cannabis products.

If you’re manufacturing pre-rolls, you’ve got a very short amount of leeway between delivering a consistent experience versus utter disappointment, shame, and all-around bad vibes.

And that’s the thing about pre-rolls. So much can go wrong for such a seemingly simple product.

But hey, let’s not over-complicate this.

In our previous playbook entry – The Silent Killer of Pre-Roll Brands – we talked about issues to avoid for optimized smokability (overpacking, uneven packing, etc).

But what happens when the overall experience with your product varies wildly from one purchase to the next?

Inconsistency in pre-rolls can range from the potency and flavor to the very freshness of the cannabis itself, and it’s a quick way to lose customers.

What’s Going Wrong?

  • Variable Potency
  • Fluctuating Flavor Profiles
  • Freshness Factor

Why Should You Care?

Inconsistency is the enemy of brand loyalty. Cannabis lovers curate their cannabis experiences in all sorts of ways, whether it’s vibing out at a concert, creative work focus, exercising, or intimate time with their partner.

This is tricky with pre-rolls because the grinding process damages the plant materiel (although using a low-heat grinder certainly helps).

Once you grind those fragrant cannabis buds into the desired consistency, you’re racing the clock.

Just imagine all those crushed trichomes gassing of valuable terpenes and cannabinoids.

The sooner you can get that plant material sealed into a strong pre-roll, the fresher your end product.

Because the last thing you want is to be the pre-roll brand bringing inferior weed to the party.

From the Consumer’s Mouth:

“Sometimes the pre-rolls are great, and other times it’s like smoking a different product. I’ve moved on to other brands because I prefer knowing what I’m getting into each time,” says Jenna, 34, who works as a dentist and uses weed every evening to de-stress from the horror of interacting with peoples’ mouths all day.

If you want to thrive in cannabis, don’t mess this up for people like Jenna.

Make No Assumptions

In the competitive landscape of the cannabis industry, delivering consistent quality is a must.

Make no assumption here.

When your pre-rolls vary too much, you’re essentially telling your customers to look elsewhere.

If you’re ready to take the guesswork out of your pre-roll manufacturing for stronger profit margins and a consistent product that your customers will love, the next question is how many pre-rolls can you sell per month?
